Summer 2004 |
 |
IDEV 111/PROG 109 |
|   |
Description
Internet Development 111 was an introduction to the fundamentals of databases,
programming using javascript, and client-side concepts. We learned to use form
elements and then to validate the information collected from forms using
javascript. We learned about events and event-handlers, including roll-overs
and click events. We learned very basic SQL and created a database that we learned
to query using ColdFusion. |
|   |
Skills
Javascript, MySQL, ColdFusion |

|   |
WebMM 110 |
|   |
Description
Web Multimedia 110 was a survey course in multimedia concepts. We studied
all aspects of authoring internet applications including gathering resources,
writing HTML and scripts, using images effectively, creating streaming media
presentations, and incorporating all of these components into a single presentation. |
|   |
Skills
Browser compatibility, W3C XHTML standards, Copyright issues, Cascading Style Sheets,
Frames, UNIX commands. |
Three pages |
 |
This project was intended to show the differences in the way browsers display HTML, and also to
demonstrate the differences in absolute positioning with CSS and tables with HTML. This project
shows the same page coded three different ways: 1)Using Tables, 2)Using Style Sheets and absolute
positioning, and 3)a Hybrid of the two approaches. |

Animation 121 |
|   |
Description
Animation 121 introduced basic principles of good design such as Balance, Proximity,
Alignment, Repetition, and the use of color. We learned how to use typography to make sure
our text areas were legible and readable. We learned the difference between raster images
and vector graphics. I used Illustrator for the first time and found that I really enjoyed
creating graphics this way. We learned how to use Photoshop to create graphics appropriate
for television. We learned to create a simple banner ad and then animate it with ImageReady.
We included this banner ad on a 'splash page' which we created using both Photoshop and
Illustrator. Please see the links below. |
|   |
Skills
Selection techniques, masks, adjustment layers, and compositing in Photoshop; Pen tool, using gradients,
choosing realistic colors in Illustrator; optimization techniques for GIF and JPEG formats. |

IDEV 211 |
|   |
Description
Internet Development 211 focused on the client-side programming techniques that I had
been introduced to in previous classes. I learned to use many types of events and event
handlers, forms and form validation, the Document Object Model, querystrings, and
cookies. |
|   |
Skills
Javascript, HTML, CSS. |
eSquared.com |
 |
This website was the culmination of three projects. We began by getting the design and company idea and then
we added more and more functionality with successive projects. This site uses client-side Javascript programming
to handle events, do form validation, and calculations on the products page. User Name: "George" and Password: "1"
will get you into the site and allow you to visit the Members only pages. |

PROG 111 |
|   |
Description
This class was an introductory programming class that was taught in the language C++.
I decided to take basic programming so that I could reinforce some concepts I
was afraid I was forgetting because I was not actively using them. There is value
in knowing as much about computers as I can since they will be a large part of my
future and a necessary tool to most any career path in the future. |
|   |
Skills
Visual Studio, C++. |
|   |
|   |
PROG 117 |
|   |
Description
This class was the server-side equivalent of the Programming 109 class that I took
previously. We focused on learning how to create a dynamic database-centric internet
site. I learned many server-side skills. |
|   |
Skills
ASP.NET, webform controls and validation controls, C#, ADO.NET, CSS, HTML Visual Studio,
reading and writing cookies, Debugging, database interaction, dynamically retrieving
content from a database, using stored procedures, querystrings, using a session variable to
determine if a user is logged in, binding data to webform controls. |
|   |
don't give me that.com |
 |
This website was the culmination of three projects. We were given the company premise: serving wish lists, and
we were required to come up with a company logo, design and color scheme. I created the logo in Illustrator.
We added more and more functionality with successive projects. This site uses server-side ASP.NET programming
to handle events, do form validation, and dynamically retrieve content from a database. Notice: the View Other Lists
page is no longer connected to the database and so it will not generate a wish list. The functionality is there
but the database is missing. The User Name: "Darian" and Password: "Buffy" will get you into the site and allow
you to visit the Members only pages. |
